Measurement uncertainty as a part of result interpretation

Conclusions cannot be drawn if the measurement uncertainty related to the measuring result is not known. When a laboratory or inspection body takes a stand on conformity by comparing the result/results it has received to a specific limit value, consideration should be given to the models presented in the guidebook ILAC G8:03/2009 on how measurement uncertainty should be taken into account. However, provisions must be made for statutory requirements or instructions from authorities on the interpretation of results.
