Standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 will be updated

8/21/2015

The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the ISO Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO) have decided that the transitional period for Standards ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 will be three years, starting from the publishing date of the standard in question.

Certifications that were granted in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 14001:2004 will not be valid after the three-year transitional period has expired.  The validity period of certifications granted during the transitional period must terminate at the end of the transitional period.

Evaluations by FINAS

Application

FINAS will begin the assessment procedures after receiving an application for a change to the scope of accreditation. Applications will be accepted after the publication of the FDIS versions. Accreditation decisions can only be taken after the final versions of the standards have been published.

The following information must be enclosed with an application for a change to the scope or accreditation:

  • the supplemented or modified internal codes of practices, with special account being taken of the following:
    • qualification of auditors in the application of the new standards
    • description of the way in which audits take organisational connections into consideration
    • effect of the new standard requirements on the audit programme and plan
    • mastery of a risk-based approach, risk assessment techniques and auditing practices
    • auditing of the needs and expectations of stakeholders
    • information on the way in which audit results are reported for decision-making
    • determining and delineating the scope of certification (organisational boundaries)
  • an analysis by the certification body regarding the key changes to the new standards
  • information on the training and qualification of the auditors for audits conducted in accordance with the new standards
  • information on the provision of information on the adoption of the new standards to customers

Evaluation

As a rule, applications for change to the scope of accreditation are evaluated in connection with the normal evaluations of the accreditation period. If necessary, a separate evaluation can be carried out at the sole request of the customer.

The evaluation of an application for a change always includes one audit follow-up regarding each standard.
